Day 1 to 5
The Basics of Playing Guitar
First and foremost, it's important to find the right guitar for you. Assuming you already have a guitar it’s time to know how to hold the guitar and pick, know about the parts of guitar and how these works. Fortunately, there are a number of resources available to help you to know about these things. Online lessons, instructional books and even YouTube videos can all be very helpful.
How to Tune Your Guitar Easily
Now you have your brand new guitar there is 90% chance that your guitar is not tuned. So, you need to learn tuning your guitar before starting to play. There are 6 strings in a guitar E, A, D, G, B, and E. The lowest sounding string or the thickest one is the 6th string, or low E. You can buy a tuner for tuning or there are plenty of apps and websites where you can tune your guitar very easily so why waste your money on a tuner? This is my favorite tuner.
Tips for Mastering Guitar Fretboard
Guitar fretboards can be extremely hard to understand for beginners. After all, there are so many tiny little notes and it can be hard to keep track of where your fingers are supposed to go. However, with a bit of practice, it is possible to master the guitar fretboard.
At the beginning, you can start with memorizing the notes on the low E string. This is the thickest string on the guitar and it is easy to find the notes. Once you have memorized the notes on the low E string, you can move on to the other strings.
Practice finding the notes on the fretboard without looking at your hands. This may take some time, but it is important to be able to find the notes without looking.
Memorize the order of the notes on the guitar fretboard. The order goes like this: E, B, G, D, A, E: this is known as the "circle of fifths".
Day 5 to 10
Understanding Chords and Strumming Patterns
Once you have your guitar, it's time to start practicing! Learn to form chords at first. A chord is when we play two or more notes together. Before that you have to learn how to read the guitar tabs. Start by learning just a few basic chords, such as A, D, and E. These are the chords you'll use most often in almost any song.
Once you can change between these chords easily, start learning some strumming patterns. A strumming pattern is simply a repeating rhythm. The best way to practice this is to find a metronome app or website while you play.
Once you can change chords and keep a steady strumming pattern going, you're ready to start learning songs. Start with simple songs that use only the chords you know.
