The Importance of Mental Health Awareness

Breaking the Stigma and Encouraging Support

Mental health has turned out to be a very sensitive and taboo issue that requires more attention, and it's high time to break the taboo associated with mental health issues. There exists a sense of judgment from the society, labeling as "lunatic" or "weak". This affects the victims to open up about their issues. However, it should be considered that depression, anxiety and helplessness is not an option to choose upon, or it doesn't someons’ character or personality. It has to be strongly considered as a medical condition that needs treatment most in the form of ani-depressats and proper counseling, just like any other medical illness.

A recent study by the World Health Organization (WHO) suggests that one out of four individuals  worldwide is going through mental illness. This astounding and concerning number demonstrates how predominant  mental health problems are in our society. Arguably it could be as harmful as Cancer, since it works as a foundation of all other illnesses. It has been reported in recent reports , how long term ADHD and depression affect physical metabolism and lead to illness from obesity to heart failure . However, despite the numbers, the stigma associated with seeking help or opening about mental state  remains a huge obstacle.

But on a good note , due to the modern groundbreaking advancement and efforts from mental health activists,  there are actually a plethora of  resources now available completely free  for individuals  who require  help with mental health issues. There are also paid resources offered for  intense cases, which include therapy, antidepressant medication, peer support groups, and obviously better life-style practices like  exercise, meditation, and daily journaling. However, the challenge is to know where to start, especially for those who have never sought help before.

Breaking the taboo is essential towards promoting mental health awareness. Sharing those horrifying experiences and stories is very difficult due to being really vulnerable, however it could help others feel less alone and provide empowerment to other people to speak as well. The more you talk about them and integrate them in daily conversation, the less stigmatic it gets. . It is also crucial  to educate ourselves and society in general  about the subtle hints and symptoms of mental illness and also training and education is required on how to caregive a mental health affected individual.

Finally, the major issue  associated with mental health is lack of reach or access to the masses. SInce still a stigma, there are less funds allocated for better research and promotion of the resources . Proper advocating for better and larger access to those support  resources and funding for research opportunities  is a key in this case.  Mental illness is just as serious a  global pandemic and  that affects people of all ages, nationalities, gender, and backgrounds, yet it is still mighty under-resourced. So the initiatives should start from the local to the national level. And it's not just the duty of medical  practitioners, but also the common masses to destigmatize the issues so that governments could be more responsible for these issues.

Mental health should be the first priority to prevent us from other terminal illness and well-being is also crucial in bringing awareness regarding mental health. . We should be more open to speak about our experiences and seek proper counseling and other support.  We must consider that mental health is as significant for our survival  as physical health, and nobody should feel embarrassed to take care of themselves and it should be something we feel proud of.

In a nutshell, mental health awareness is immensely crucial . By breaking the taboo and opening up casual conversations about mental health, we can help people to be a more compassionate and supportive society and help those who are battling against this modern age pandemic. . It is high time to promote mental health and make sure  that everyone has free and better access to the resources and support available , so they all live freely and thrive . Let us start the conversation right now. Maybe talk to the friend sitting next to you? We can do this!
